Cancer - when pain and fear takes over We've all heard of or read countless articles on 'visualisation'. But have you ever really thought about it? In your stressed and tired fight against cancer, you tend to get all muddled up between 'doctor's orders' and endless info on the web. Time to 'pull yourself towards yourself'!! Let's talk visualisation. Believe me, this works wonders. (Best thing is, you can lie back on as many pillows as you wish, put on a determined face, and tell all 'Sorry, I'm busy'.) And, YES, you will be busy. Busy healing yourself. 'Self' being you, your spirit, and thus also your vessel. No, this is not a strange trippy astral travelling journey you'll embark on. Fear not. It is more a thing of you, visiting yourself. Get it? Let me explain more. Your body is sick - right? Fighting, possibly in pain, often fearful, and sometimes even angry. As you stare blankly at endless bottles of medication, white clad staff, needles, monster machines - you name it - your spirit gets suppressed. The main thingy that YOU are, is somewhere in there, screaming for attention. Yes, I know you might be in a fantastic support group, or reading anything you can slam your hands on (I sure hope you do both) - but do you ever do the 'quiet' thing? From the beginning of time (we can argue for days about when exactly this was), great masters have begged us to have quiet time. Almost like meditation. Even the greatest inventions weren't done amidst carnivals and hordes of people. No. It is when you have only yourself to account for, that great things happen. (NOTE: I'm not suggesting you become a hermit!!). So, how can this help with pain and fear? Just imagine!! So, you're on your bed/couch/carpet/lawn. Favourite pillows intact? And yes, soothing music is allowed!! Breathe slowly and deeply (and stop clenching those fists!). Close your eyes - and go. Choose somewhere new, not a memory (change is as good as a holiday, remember!). Your place may be anywhere, anything. A room you decorate, a forest, beach, mountain, waterfall, race track, mall - ANYWHERE. But YOU must be there. Do things. Build a camp, pick flowers, see the colours, smell it. Really BE there. Elaborate. Put humour in it. Hear the sounds, feel the grass. Walk further - don't be hesitant. This is YOU, your place. No vessel, just you!! PS: Yes, feeling slightly ridiculous at first is OK! But mark my words; this little 'exercise' is addictive. So, put on your oldest tracksuit, don't forget the lip gloss, and go meet yourself.
