Julia Roberts --Star Quality Style

Many women have dreamed of having Julia Roberts’ hair. However trying to pin down any one particular “look” is difficult. Taking a trip through the many Web Sites dedicated to Julia, you will see that she is incredibly versatile in the style and mood she presents.
The “Pretty Woman” hair is probably the most remembered and desired of all of her hair styles. Big loopy curls like those are either God-given or the result of a permanent wave. This could be done on long hair with long layering on large perm rods, wrapped “on-base” for optimum fullness. After the perm, the correct gel, mousse and frizz potions must be used to form the hair into individual curls. When the hair is dry, it is combed and arranged only with the fingers. The curls may become divided causing an increasingly frizzy appearance with combing. This look is seen in Julia’s character Erin Brockovich where she portrays a flamboyant single mother trying to come to terms with her chaotic life as career woman and mother. Little time is left for her own personal care and attention to detail.
A dramatic change of style was seen at the 2001 Golden Globe Awards. Miss Roberts had toned her eye-catching auburn tresses to a darker warm brown. The curls were smoothed into a very sleek and sophisticated straight style. Julia’s long hair was pulled up into a classic up do. The bangs were smoothed to the side from a short side part. All the rest of the hair was pulled back smoothly into what appeared to be a full, controlled ponytail. This can be achieved on very long hair by pulling all the hair up into a high ponytail and fanning it out with some backcombing to give it fullness. On hair that is not long enough, it is achieved by placing a second ponytail mid-way down and hidden under the first. This allows the hair from the second ponytail to flow to the nape while the first ponytail is fanned out to cover all traces of the second. The band of the first is hidden taking part of the hair and bobby-pinning it to the head in front of the band and then smoothing the hair over the band and blending it with the total ponytail.

Please refer to the diagram. Unless your hair is extremely thick, this procedure requires backcombing and hairspray.
To create this look on even shorter hair, pull your hair back and secure it with bobby pins, fastening a hairpiece of matching color in the form of a wiglet or fall on the back, making sure to cover the pins.
All of the styles Julia Roberts has appeared in show planning, the use of styling aids, and attention to detail. These styles take a little more time to create but the result is Star-Quality Style.
