Sunny Day Crochet

Sunny Day Crochet
Well, warm weather is here! Woohoo!!! So now it’s time for us to put away our crochet and pick up our needlepoint, sewing or quilting. Right!?!

No way! There are many projects waiting to be created. It is true no one wants to be swamped with warm, cozy, heavy yarn in 90+ °F weather. So, what are the alternatives? For many of us crochet must go on.

There are many yarns available today that are perfect for warm weather crochet. Cotton yarns are available in a wide variety of colors. Cotton is a great yarn to make cover-ups for the beach or pool. You could make a market bag to carry on your outdoor trips for your suntan lotion, beach towels and yes, of course, your yarn. Summer hats are another useful item to make with cotton yarns. It’s also a great yarn to make washcloths for housewarming or baby shower gifts. Other great yarns for warm weather crochet are ribbon yarn, silk yarn and linen yarn. There are so many lightweight yarns to use to create a new lightweight afghan, perhaps making the motifs then sewing them together in the comfort of our air-conditioned homes. For those that haven’t picked up cotton thread (bedspread weight yarn), in a while, now may be the time to perfect those skills. They have a huge variety of colors for chokers, hair accessories, or small gifts such as earrings or bookmarks, which are great gifts for those young ladies in your life. It might even get their interest in learning a new craft.

I like to make small items for home decorations; right now I am working on little strawberries for my kitchen. I can just about taste them. What a great summer treat.

There are huge amounts of free crochet patterns available online. Doing a search for free crochet patterns in any search engine will keep you busy, (and drooling) for hours. Perhaps now is the time to practice a new technique when you can relax, sit back and enjoy the sounds of nature. Make sure to protect your yarn from sand and other debris while away from home.

So while your cooling down at the pool or at that picnic in the park you can also create great treasures for family and friends or perhaps a little something for yourself. Remember just because the weather has turned from a wintry wonderland to an oasis of sun and fun doesn’t mean we can’t continue with our love of crochet.

So come visit our forums and let us know what projects you are working on throughout our warm weather seasons. Perhaps you can inspire someone to create a masterpiece.
