Class Feedback Sheets

Class Feedback Sheets
I am a teacher of patchwork and quilting and have been for over 10 years. I thoroughly enjoy the experience of teaching to others what I know that works for me and what I find out through research and extended contact with my quilting colleagues.

I especially enjoy those “ah ha” moments that happen in every class with students who are learning something new or perhaps are refreshing their skills. Let’s face it, achieving successfully in quilting and patchwork is not rocket science, but as with all hobbies and skills, there is always something new to learn.

What we don’t focus on often enough, is how we can improve the delivery of the information from our tutors. We all attend classes with high expectations. We expect to learn something new; we expect to be able to achieve the skills that are being taught (perhaps with some practice); we expect to have this information delivered to us in an easy paced, clear and calm manner; and we expect the tutor to have good people and listening skills.

It is to this end that a Class Feedback sheet becomes extremely helpful to both the student and the tutor and not forgetting the quilt shop owner who is hosting the class. Without feedback, both positive and negative information is lost to the stakeholders. The owner doesn’t know that the tutor is perhaps sub-standard, the tutor doesn’t realise she needs to improve her delivery, and the student feels that their concerns are not important.

We always hear positive feedback after a great experience, but generally speaking we rarely hear the negative feedback through the right channels. Lots of gossip happens, but it often fails to reach the people who really need to hear it.

So I have developed a very simple feedback sheet which I would like to share with you today. This sheet covers the most important issues when delivering and receiving tuition.
This form can be handed out at the end of the class, either by the tutor herself, or by the quilt shop owner. The filled out forms can be handed back to either, and it is optional whether the student identifies herself.

I offer it here in PDF format, and I am happy for you to use it in your quilt shop setting, or as a tutor who wishes to receive feedback (both positive and negative) following the delivery of a class.
All I ask is that you keep the attribution details (the copyright info) on the form when printing.
