Week Twelve of Pregnancy - 12th Week

How Your Baby is Changing During the Twelfth Week
Your baby is continuing to grow, and has now reached about 2 1/2 inches long and weighs around 1/2 ounce. The next gland has begun producing hormones now; the Pituitary gland has begun to work.

The bones of his body are now forming as well, a process called ossification. The fingers and toes are separating completely and the nails are almost completely formed.

At this stage of the pregnancy, the heartbeat may be audible with Doppler. You won't be able to hear the fetal heartbeat with a stethoscope yet.

How Your Body is Changing During the Twelfth Week
You may now be gaining the first few pounds of your pregnancy weight, although some women may find they've actually lost weight due to morning sickness. Nauseous feelings are probably easing, and expectant mothers will likely find their appetite returning as well.

Your uterus is growing and, for the first time, is palpable (able to be felt by hand) just above the pubic bone. As your uterus grows large enough to be cradled by the pelvic bones, this relieves the strain on the lower back and will likely decrease any round ligament pain you have been experiencing.

Even with all the growth and changes becoming more visible, most pregnant mothers find that this is the time their energy surges. Many woman find themselves feeling more alive and vibrant than ever before.
